Who is the Cabaret?

We sat near one of many provided barbeques - both gas and woodfired, at a hunky table on a chunky bench.

We consumed our smorgasbord dinner surrounded by a circle of exactly evenly spaced seagulls.

Occasionally they screeched biliously, but were mostly silent and attentive audiences and retained a respectful distance.

We did not feed them until at the end I chucked a piece of cheese rind at one of them. It was an awkward L shaped piece of rind.

The gull caught it and extended its neck in a straight line with its body and tail, in order to swallow it in one piece, and, almost at the same time, made an 180 degree jump, turn, swoop and verbal attack on the adjacent gull - just in case another morsel might be coming that way?          - Altogether, I felt, an indigestible performance…

Sometimes Paradise

The wind is unpredictable

The sea and sand are ever changing -

Nagged, honed, bullied, chivvied, whipped, lashed, lulled, hummed, tickled, titillated, submissed and subdued, ever under the reins and in the harness of the omniscient wind - a restless driver.
